Why do Taiwan small shops love cash?

Many traditional street food and family-run shops prefer cash—low fees and simple bookkeeping. Although mobile payment has become more common in recent years, plenty of local merchants still choose “cash + online pay in parallel,” letting regulars and younger customers each get what they need.

Local Point shows the available payment methods based on the merchant’s settings, and the page marks whether ECPay or pay-cash-on-site is supported before you order.

Online pay vs. pay cash on site

Online payment usually requires the payment to complete before the order is confirmed; if payment is interrupted, the order may not be created or may need to be redone—follow the system prompts.

  • Online pay (e.g., ECPay): complete payment at checkout for faster pickup or collection
  • Pay cash on site: pay in cash after ordering—great for users without a linked payment tool
  • Some merchants support both; you can choose at checkout

The general app checkout flow

Browsing merchants doesn’t require logging in, but for full checkout and order lookup we recommend logging in for easier tracking afterward.

  • Add to cart → confirm items and pickup / booking time
  • Choose a payment method (based on what the merchant enables)
  • Complete payment or confirm “pay cash on site”
  • Keep the order record, and show it or give your number in store

Common consumer questions

If you prefer cash, you can still order on Local Point—just choose merchants that support paying cash on site. If you want to save time on change, prioritize shops that have enabled ECPay.

  • Can I mix payment methods across different shops? — Each order follows that shop’s settings and is checked out separately
  • How are refunds handled? — Per the merchant and payment channel rules; see the order details
